On Thursday, May 26, Kim Bimestefer, Executive Director, Department of Health Care Policy and Financing, met with CCHA leaders to discuss key priorities, program opportunities and strengths. The team also had the chance to tour one of our Region 6 community partners, A Precious Child, and view the devastating Marshall Fire burn site.
Marshall Fire
On December 30, a fire sparked near Marshall Road and Highway 93 in Boulder County, burning more than 6,000 acres and destroying more than 1,000 homes and businesses.
As the regional organization in Boulder County, CCHA quickly jumped into action to contact 31,900 potentially impacted members and identify their needs. Of those members, about 40 reported having needs that CCHA could help with, including housing, supplies and clothing. CCHA continues to follow up with members affected by the fire to address needs.
In addition to the direct support CCHA provided members impacted by the fires, CCHA also helped the community by identifying 12 behavioral health providers with the capacity to support the community’s growing needs. CCHA also contributed financially to the Boulder Valley School District Fund, the Community Foundation of Boulder and a Precious Child.
During the visit, Boulder County Department of Human Services Director, Susan Caskey, and Garry Sanfacon, Recovery Manager, walked the group through the areas ravaged by the Marshall Fire and updated us on the important disaster assistance they continue to provide the community.
A Precious Child
As a community partner, A Precious Child assists our Health First Colorado (Colorado’s Medicaid Program) children and families facing difficult life challenges such as abuse and neglect, crises and poverty. A Precious Child helps members on a day-to-day basis and played a crucial role in helping the community during the Marshall Fire by distributing essential items to affected families and supporting survivors as they transitioned into a more stable living situation.
During the visit on May 26, the group toured A Precious Child to get a feel for how the organization uses five economic mobility initiatives to bridge the gap in a child’s education and unmet needs so every child may become a secure, self-reliant, contributing member of the community. Visit A Preciouschild.org to learn more about how a Precious Child provides child and family advocacy, family stability, academic success, social and emotional well-being and workforce development to those in need.
